One of the best spots in Punta del Diablo is the bar next to the beach, this bar is called Diablo Tranquilo Bar. The bar got great food, service, fantastic design and lots of ice cold beer. The bonus of all those was the bar is actually right on the beach. Though the bar have operated for only a few months now, there is no bad feedback from customers. I've been to this bar! El Diablo Tranquilo is a really cool bar and unlike most places who claim to be "on the beach" this one is literally one step from water - perfect on those hot hot January days!
The staff are super attentive, the barman makes great caipirinha (a rarity in Uruguay, especially the rural parts!) and the food is 5 star quality - definitely check it out!
When I was there in March 2009 they told me they had big plans to renovate and build penthouse cabins with sea views so this is one to watch if you're travelling to Uruguay next year!
